Terms of Use

Last updated: October 25, 2026

These terms cover your use of The News in Data (thenewsindata.com), which I, Samuel W. Bennett, run from Colorado's Vail Valley. By using the site you agree to them. I've tried to keep them short and in plain English.

Can you share or republish my charts?

Yes. You're welcome to share, post or republish any chart on the site, whether that's on social media, in a newsletter, in a class or in your own story. Just credit The News in Data and link back to the story the chart came from. A credit line like "Chart: Samuel W. Bennett, The News in Data" with a link works well. Please don't change the numbers in a chart or present it as your own work.

What about the text?

You can quote short passages with credit and a link. Please don't copy whole stories onto another site.

Who owns the underlying data?

The data behind each chart belongs to its original source, such as a government agency, a research group or a league, and each source has its own terms. I list every source at the end of the story so you can go straight to it.

Is any of this advice?

No. The stories are for information and discussion. Nothing on the site is financial, legal, medical or betting advice, and you shouldn't make decisions based only on a chart here. I work hard to get the numbers right, but the site is provided as is, and I can't promise it's free of errors or always available.

What are the rules for comments?

Comments are held for approval before they appear. I approve comments that engage with the data, including ones that disagree with me. I don't approve spam, personal attacks, harassment or anything illegal, and I may remove comments that break these rules.

What about links to other sites?

Stories link to outside sources and other websites. I'm not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.

How is your information handled?

See the Privacy Policy, which covers the newsletter, the contact form, analytics and Google AdSense cookies.

Can these terms change?

Yes. When I update them, I'll change the date at the top of this page. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado.
